I understand the whole story in Arkham Knight is that the city's been evacuated, but it feels like a missed opportunity because with such a big sandbox, gliding around the city encountering only criminals/drones with the occasional trapped firefighter to rescue gets tiresome and makes everything feel impersonal. Having also recently replayed Arkham Knight, one thing Spider-Man does better with it's open world is that it's actually populated with civilians. I think the Arkham games have better atmosphere and fanservice (in the first two games), but with Spider-Man I actually got invested with the characters and story. Obviously Batman is a stark difference from Spider-Man, but those games usually didn't strive for much emotional depth or explore what makes Batman/Bruce Wayne tick like the best Batman stories do. ![]() But honestly, a problem I have with the Arkham games aside from Origins (which somehow has the best story and worst gameplay+level design of the series), is that Batman is a robot in those games, and the games never really explore the humane side of Batman. I stan Peter and MJ in this game.Īs a comparison, when it comes to superhero games, I'm a big fan of the Arkham Games, Arkham City is like a top 5 all time best video game for me. I loved the characterization of practically every character, and there were some impactful story elements I wasn't expecting and also impressed me. ![]() But this game is such a love letter to all things Spider-Man, the gameplay is super fun, the city feels lived in, and the story is legit great. I wasn't able to play until it came out on pc, a little late to the party.
